The Central Election Commission (CEC) has declared the schedule for the Delhi Assembly Elections. The elections, which cover 70 assembly seats, will be held in a single phase on February 5. Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said that the vote counting will be done on February 8 and the results will be declared on the same day.
Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said special arrangements are being made to make the voting process smooth and transparent. The webcasting will be there in all the polling stations for better monitoring. And also, voting from home facility has been given for senior citizens who are more than 85 years of age so that everyone gets a chance.
Regarding the allegations for EVM and voter list anomalies, CEC Rajiv Kumar stated that both allegations were 'utterly rejected' by the authorities. Moreover, he argued that the very nature of conducting the election, including strict adherence to guidelines, keeps everything transparent.
"We consult political parties at every stage of voter list preparation, ensuring accuracy and transparency. The inclusion and deletion of names in the voter list follow established protocols, leaving no room for irregularities," Kumar said.
The CEC emphasized that courts have declared 42 times that EVMs are tamper-proof and cannot be hacked. Claims of tampering were termed "baseless." Moreover, he dismissed claims of drastic changes in polling percentages after 5 PM, saying that the process is monitored and tamper-proof.
Boosting Voter Turnout
Rajiv Kumar, while hailing the increased number of women voting in the poll process, had said that this was the reason for India nearing 100 crore voters in an election.
