Harish Rao, BRS MLA, said that the Congress government had run up a whopping debt of Rs. 1.25 lakh crore in its first year. Speaking during a debate on state loans in the Legislative Assembly, Rao issued a challenge, saying he would resign if what I said is proven wrong.
Allegations Against Congress' Loan Policies
- Harish Rao alleged mismanagement on the part of the Congress government, claiming they are aggressively seeking loans by selling state assets.
- "They are attempting to sell TGIIC lands at Rs. 75 crore per acre," he stated.
- He pointed out that the BJP raised mess charges, but the earlier government used to give subsidized money for agricultural machinery.
Concerns Over Rising Debt
- Rao said that at this borrowing rate, the Congress government would surpass the debt accumulated by the previous government in five years itself.
- "If we continue borrowing at this pace, the debt could surpass Rs. 7 lakh crore in a decade," he added.
Comparing Financial Management
- Harish Rao claimed that his government had given a surplus budget of Rs. 2.93 lakh crore to the Congress.
- "We have increased the state's own revenue from Rs. 35,000 crore to Rs. 1.5 lakh crore," he emphasized.
- However, he admitted that the pandemic and policies from the central government had caused revenue to be reduced and the debt burden to increase.
Rao's comments reflect his discontent with the financial policies of the Congress government and his readiness to defend his claims.
